Pay Equity Challenge Coalition excited by Supreme Court decision
Yesterday’s decision by the Supreme Court not to accept an appeal by the employers of rest home caregiver Kristine Bartlett, means that the case can now return back to the Employment Court.
“We are excited by the Supreme Court’s decision; it opens the way for the next step towards ensuring equal pay for work of equal value,” said Pay Equity Challenge Coalition, spokesperson, Angela McLeod.
“This is good news for women who currently do not receive equal pay for work of equal value,” said McLeod.
“This is certainly a Christmas present for women especially those in female-dominated and low paid workplaces such as caregivers, school support workers,” said McLeod,” said McLeod.
“We are looking forward to seeing some positive action from the Minister for Women and from the Government to ensure women are workers are paid what they’re worth,” said McLeod.
